An article regarding the designer’s collaboration with Batik Danar Hadi was published in the July 2011 issue of Harper’s Bazaar Indonesia. Click the links to view the backstage images and also the runway images of the fashion show that was already held on April 28th, 2011 at The Ritz Carlton Pacific Place, Jakarta.

Below are the excerpts from the article:

Kali ini lima desainer ditantang menginterpretasikan gagasan kreatifnya untuk kain batik.

Bukan rahasia bila kolaborasi desainer dan rumah fashion dapat menyuntikkan spirit baru, bahkan mendongkrak penjualan. Seperti, label Danar, seri premium Danar Hadi, produsen batik yang selama tiga tahun belakangan aktif melibatkan desainer. Perkembangan desain busana batik memang menantang, terutama dalam mempertahankan estetika sebagai warisan budaya. Namun konsumen pun makin mendambakan sesuatu yang baru agar tidak terlihat ‘kuno’. Untuk koleksi terkininya, lima desainer Indonesia, yakni Oscar Lawalata, Carmanita, Ghea Panggabean, Hutama Adhi, dan Sapto Djojokartiko, menorehkan goresan desain mereka.

Salah satu koleksi yang menuai perhatian datang dari Sapto Djojokartiko. Batik disulapnya dengan emblem payet pada detail motifnya, memberi sentuhan glamor. Variasi desain terlihat dari model cheongsam, one-shoulder dresses, aksen ruffles, dress berpotongan pendek dengan lilitan pada bagian roknya, hingga model baju kurung. Sementara itu, Carmanita bermain dengan siluet asimetris yang telah lama menjadi ciri khas desainer wanita tersebut. Motif batik diterapkan pada bahan halus menerawang, ditambah aksesori dari bahan batik motif yang senada.

Karya lainnya datang dari Hutama Adhi. Dia juga menyematkan payet pada batik seperti di bagian leher dan pinggang, siluet busananya dibuat dengan teknik drapery layaknya Grecian dress. Lalu Ghea Panggabean yang masih mengambil inspirasi gaya era 1970-an dengan turban, bohemian, dan rok berpotongan high waist. Sedangkan Oscar lebih menekankan pada mood relaks dengan atasan dan bawahan bergaya kasual, yang terefleksi lewat model bolero atau rok dan celana pendek dengan pilihan motif batik berwarna kontras. Masing-masing desainer memiliki ciri khas masing-masing dalam mendefinisikan kemewahan.

Walau beberapa potong mudah diidentifikasikan sebagai pengulangan koleksi sang desainer di kesempatan sebelumnya, mereka makin kritis memaknai batik. Terutama dalam pemilihan motif, teknik desain, dan kombinasi warna. Siluet busananya ditekankan pada kemasan praktis dan modern. Pelansiran koleksi ini bersamaan malam peluncuran buku The Glory of Batik dan Privelege Card Danar Hadi.

Last March, Sapto Djojokartiko just participated in “Marketing Investment Indonesia 2011″ and collaborated with Batik powerhouse Danar Hadi for ten batik printed dresses that was presented on a fashion show at Hyatt Seoul Grand Ballroom, South Korea. And earlier this evening, April 28th, 2011, the designer and Batik Danar Hadi collaborated once again for a fashion show “The Glory of Batik” at The Ritz-Carlton Pacific Place, Jakarta along with four others fashion designers.

Sixteen exquisite batik dresses with sequins and draping detailing showed in the last section of the fashion show serenaded by the talented singer, Rossa, who’s also wearing a one shouldered batik long dress made by Sapto Djojokartiko. Equally exquisite jewelries such as brooch, earrings and batik printed minaudières completed the look.

Rossa was not the only one wearing the designer’s collection on the event, several Jakarta’s socialites who took a picture at the backstage and former model Arzeti Bilbina also wearing batik collections by the Solo born designer.

Sapto Djojokartiko batik dress also made appearance in the 2011 ad campaign of Batik Danar Hadi.

Sapto Djojokartiko participated in “Marketing Investment Indonesia 2011” in Seoul, South Korea by held a fashion show collaborating with Batik powerhouse Danar Hadi where ten Batik printed dresses (eight are featured below) worn by the models from Model Center International. The designer also got a chance to took a picture together with Mr.Shin Woo Toh, the Chairman of Model Center International.
